FOR FUN
Fall Recruiting is NOW underway!
Eligibility
Pack 551 has three levels of Scouting served within the Pack:
In addition, Pack 551 has a Wee and She Scout program for siblings of our Cub Scouts.
Recruiting Events
Scouts are welcomed into Pack 551 year round, but we typically have most new Scouts join in September or March. March Pack night is 18 March, with a new parent orientation night that night where we will start building new Dens!
Dues
Pack dues are
$65 for 2009 - 2010,
$28 for Wee/She Scouts; please make checks to Cub Scout Pack 551. That includes a subscription to Boys Life magazine, and dues to the Chief Seattle Council and the Boy Scouts of America. It also pays for the Pack’s operations, including awards, insurance and other expenses. At no point should cost be a factor in a young person joining Scouts! By parents volunteering, dues can be cut in half (minumum 4 hours per month/assistant Committee member) or eliminated all together (minimum of 6 hours per month/Pack chair). Scouts are about inclusion! For more information,
contact the Committee Chair.
UniformYour son will also need a uniform shirt and a handbook to work on his advancement. You can order these by mail or in person. The people at the Seattle Scout Shop are REALLY helpful and can walk you through your order. You can also get most items at The Grange in Issaquah.
The minimum to get is listed below, but you can also get pants or shorts. Some of our boys go that far, but it’s purely up to you and your son - for Pack events, all we ask are dark pants be worn (jeans are okay), but uniform shirts MUST be worn (and tucked in!). For all scouts, the minimum to get would be:
A short sleeve shirt (big enough to grow into until he’s 11!)
Council shoulder patch,
Council “rounder” patch,
Den number patch (make sure to check with your Den leader as to which number to get)
Pack numerals (551)
World scouting patch
Scout belt (appropriate to level)
Scout hat
To figure out where to sew all that stuff, take a look at the uniform inspection sheet.
HINT: Staple the patches in place on the shirt before sewing, then remove staples afterward; use Badge Magic; or shell out $1 per badge for the dry cleaner to make your life easier!
You will also need:
Neckerchief (appropriate to level)
Slide (appropriate to level)
Handbook (appropriate to level)
These items are also available from The Grange as well as the Seattle Scout Shop.

So What Do I Do Now?
Simple - take a look at our Pack Calendar to see when the next Pack Night is, and bring your Scout to see the fun! Everyone's always welcome at Pack Night, and it's a great way to get a feel for what being in the Pack is all about.
And of course, you'll find lots of other information here on the Pack 551 website (for your Scout, for you as a parent) - so just look around!
