Right, but how does it work? Three simple words:

Cub Scouting has just got to be FUN. If it ain't fun, no one's going to stick around long enough to get any benefit out of it.
Cub Scouts is a PARENT-run organization
Cub Scouts has a PURPOSE - to help our boys become tomorrow's leaders
Tell Me About Pack 551
Pack 551 is a 30-year old Cub Scout Pack, chartered out of the Concerned Parents of Margaret Mead Elementary School. We have over 50 families in our Pack, currently with 70+ active Scouts.
We currently have 10 Dens (15 with Wee and She Scouts), who meet at various points through the month. Each month (usually the 3rd Friday of the month), we meet for our Pack Night, which follows the Cub Scout theme for the month. At our Pack Night we may have special guests (magicians, story tellers) or special events (hay rides, Pinewood Derby), all of which tie in to our FUN with PURPOSE.

Every month, Pack 551 does a Good Turn for the community in which we live. Recent Good Turns have included:
Flower planting at Sammamish Commons
Veterans Day parade with the Issaquah VFW
Children's Hospital Holiday Program
Book drives, Coat drives
Scouting for Food
Pack 551 is a Quality Centenial Pack (100% Boys Life), we are a recipient of the Summertime Pack Award - and, we're only just getting started. Future plans are bright, from more service projects to the community and Margaret Mead, continued Good Turns, and a goal to have 100% camp participation! Leave No Scouts behind!
We're always interested in hearing from our old Scouts - please drop a line to our Pack Historian if you have a story of Pack 551 over the years!
Ok, How About Cub Scouts Again
The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America, incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916, is to provide an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness.
As Cub Scouts, what that means is have a lot of fun while doing it!!
Who participates? Besides your son and the leaders, YOU DO! Cub Scouts is a program for sons and their parents or another adult who will participate with them as a partner. Most of the advancement and award activities are done one-on-one with their adult partner at home or at Den meetings. Meetings are not a drop-off type of activity as they were years ago. From time to time a boy can go to a Den meeting or outing without an adult partner, but they need to be there to help and have fun. For Pack meetings, the adult should always be there because that’s where we honor the boys for all their hard work and accomplishments. They need to see you there to show your pride.
When and where do we meet? Our monthly Pack Meetings are the 3rd Friday of each month at Margaret Mead in the school gym. In addition to the Pack Meetings, the Dens may meet more during the month on dates of mutual agreement. Other outings on weekends are typical from time to time as the Den parents decide.
